One police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a colleague that got attacked by a knifeman received the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a blade to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a road collision in that location in mid-2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.

"Policeman attacked," the officer could be heard saying over his radio.

Bodyworn and dashcam recording shared by the police department depicted Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.

He struck the policeman who stumbled and dropped to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being continually attacked with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a open target, bringing the fight to an end.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get help on my throat now, I got knifed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple open wounds to his throat and further injuries to his arms and torso, while Sgt Foster suffered cut injuries.

Authorities reported Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stop his fellow officer's hemorrhaging before paramedics arrived.

The new recognition follows after the law enforcement team won internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local officer association in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Bravery Award in summer 2024.

"The actions of each policeman in the end protected each other and meant no members of the public suffered any harm."

Brown received a sentence to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per authorities.
