Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
