Egyptian Diplomatic Chief Pressures the Palestinian Group to Agree to Trump's Gaza Strip Proposal and Lay Down Arms

Egypt and Doha are actively pursuing attempts to convince the Palestinian faction to accept Donald Trump's ultimatum to stop the conflict in Gaza, according to Egypt's foreign minister.

Mounting Diplomatic Pressure on the Group

Egypt's foreign minister emphasized that the opportunity is now for the organization to disarm and refrain from offering Israeli forces any pretext to persist in its military campaign in the region, where 28 Palestinians were lost their lives on recently.

“We must avoid providing any justification for ongoing civilian casualties, which have escalated far beyond the events of October 7th,” the minister stated.

He explained that Cairo is “in close contact with Qatar and Turkey to persuade Hamas to agree to the terms”.

Key Points of the Trump Proposal

The initiative would require the group to:

  • Surrender weapons and withdraw from political activities
  • Hand over the captives in custody from the previous year's events, 20 of whom are presumed to be still alive

As part of the deal, Israeli authorities would:

  • Phase out its troops from Gaza
  • Succeeded by an multinational troops
  • Accept a transitional authority led by Trump

Experts believe that the plan would lead to the dissolution of its existence as an fighting force, while Israel would make few concessions.

Internal Divisions within Hamas

The organization is at odds over its reaction, with some members requesting more time to review the terms.

A senior commander has opposed the plan, considering it a tactic to eliminate the group whether or not they accept.

Sources close to the group report that the faction is inclined to seek modifications regarding:

  • The requirement to lay down arms
  • Ongoing deployment of soldiers in Gaza
  • Safeguards that the Hamas leaders will not be attacked

Civilian Suffering Deteriorates

Israel persisted in its operations in Gaza City and shelling across the territory on Friday, claiming the lives of 28 people.

Eleven of the victims were in the northern city, while the others perished in southern Gaza, including three in an Israeli drone strike in al-Masawi, which had been previously designated a protected space.

The Israeli military issued its ultimate directive for Gaza City on earlier this week, with the top defense official declaring that individuals left would be considered a terrorist or terrorist supporter, a designation that contradicts humanitarian standards.

Hundreds of thousands of residents remain unable to leave in the city, with numerous who lack the means for the evacuation to southern Gaza, which is said to cost more than $1,000.

“Many people are left to sleep along the roads until they can find shelter,” stated Sarah Davies.

The UN reported that there is no protected area for people fleeing the city, as areas labeled as secure areas in southern Gaza are “places of death”.

James Elder described the concept of protected spaces as “unrealistic”, stating that airstrikes are dropped with alarming regularity and shelters serving as safe havens are frequently demolished.

Healthcare System under Overwhelming Demand

Healthcare centers in the south are overwhelmed, with the aid clinic treating significantly beyond its designed patient load.

Recently, a major medical facility admitted 27 bodies of people killed by the Israeli military.

Dr Ahmad al-Farra referred to the situation as “extremely difficult”.

Israeli forces has been alleged to be targeting doctors and clinics, with a nurse said to be detained while on duty in a southern city.

Israel has asserted that arrested medical officials had connections to Hamas, though offering no substantiation.

Total casualties from the conflict in the strip has climbed to more than sixty-two thousand civilians fatally injured and nearly 170,000 wounded, as reported by the local health officials.
