Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals crossed the track directly in front of him

The dangerous situation took place on the third circuit when safety workers were spotted on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an early pitstop to swap his compromised front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Shortly afterward, the team's competitor Lawson radioed to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"

"I came out on a new set of hards, and then I arrived at Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals sprinting across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a communication breakdown somehow but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a ongoing race track marshals can be allowed to just run across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the circumstances

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was notified that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" stated the governing body

"During the third lap, safety personnel were notified and put on alert to access the circuit and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the orders to send personnel were rescinded and a caution signal was displayed in that zone"

"The examination is ongoing what occurred after that point"
