A United Nations commission of inquiry has stated that Israeli authorities has carried out acts of genocide against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.

  • Impeding reproduction through destruction of medical facilities

Investigators cites statements by government officials and the behavior of Israeli forces as evidence of genocidal intent.

"Destructive purpose was the only reasonable inference from the pattern of Israeli authorities," the document states.

Official Denial

Israel has strongly denied the allegations, describing it as "distorted and false".

An official claimed the commission members of serving as "Hamas proxies" and using "misinformation recycled and repeated by others".

Israeli officials insist that their operations are aimed at dismantling Hamas and not targeting civilians.

Background

Hostilities began after an unprecedented attack on Israeli communities by Hamas on 7 October 2023, during which approximately 1,200 individuals were murdered and over 250 were captured.

Since then, military operations have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people in Gaza, according to health authorities.

Situation in Gaza

  • The majority of the population has been forced to flee
  • Over 90% of housing are in ruins

International Law

Investigators emphasizes that countries worldwide have an obligation to prevent and penalize such acts, adding that failure to act could amount to complicity.

At the same time, the International Court of Justice is reviewing a case brought by a member state that charges Israel of genocidal actions.
