Zambia's Daka Grabs Stoppage-Time Goal for Zambia Against Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Leicester City forward brought to a close a 20-month goal barren run for Zambia with his dramatic header in Morocco.
Patson Daka proved to be the hero for the Zambian side as his injury-time header earned a dramatic 1-1 share of the points against Mali at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Casablanca.
Eagles Seize First-Half Lead
Lassine Sinayoko had put Mali ahead shortly after the 60-minute mark in the tournament's opening group encounter at the iconic Casablanca stadium, firing in from point-blank range after his first effort from a corner kick had been deflected.
Mali controlled the tempo and had an opportunity to go in front in the final moments of the opening period after a Malian forward was brought down in the penalty area by Chipolopolo defender Matthews Banda.
The designated penalty taker took responsibility for Mali but his low effort was expertly kept out by Zambia goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.
Daka's Late Header
Daka eventually salvaged a draw for the former champions, who were for the most part dominated by the robust play of their opponents until Banda's pinpoint pass was met by the attacker.
Tournament Standings
The result means both sides two points behind host nation the Atlas Lions in the group standings after the Atlas Lions claimed victory in their opening game 2-0 against Comoros on Sunday.
Zambia will stay in Casablanca to play their second fixture against their next opponents on Friday, while The Eagles travel to the capital for a pivotal match against the host nation.
